9-pawn mate in 1!

In a recent posting on a retros mailing list, Bernd Gräfrath quotes this curiosity (printed in Karl Fabel's Kurioses Schach, Walter Rau Verlag, 1960, page 61):


Mate in 1

He believes the author is Hieronymus Fischer (1843-1927).

I find that if I remove one BP there is a unique mate by White. So is the case for all the nine B pawns.
Is that the solution?
